The Art of Sustainability: TUN’s Journey from Rubber to Fashion

Lia Barretos - Visual Artist and Tun Co-founder
In the early 1980s, during the rise of the Dark movement, artist Lia Mascarenhas revolutionised the use of rubber in art. Armed with nothing more than scissors and a utility knife, Lia began crafting sculptural works and accessories from repurposed tyre tubes. Her creativity led to the birth of rings, bracelets, skirts, and necklaces, each piece reflecting her innovative approach to materials and design.

Mauro Fuke - Tun Co-FounderFast forward to 2009, Lia joined forces with fellow artist Mauro Fuke to form TUN—a brand rooted in sustainability and artistic expression. This collaboration gave rise to a new line of accessories using a mix of industrial rubber (sourced from sugar cane), natural latex, and recycled rubber from tyres. By transforming these often-overlooked materials into wearable art, TUN has redefined the boundaries between fashion, environmental consciousness, and creativity.

One of TUN’s standout features is the durability of their pieces. Made from rubber and latex, TUN accessories can withstand the elements, making them perfect for everyday wear. Whether you're at the pool, the beach, or even in the shower, TUN’s accessories are designed to hold up.

This combination of sustainability, style, and functionality is what makes TUN accessories a must-have for fashion-forward individuals who care about the planet.
